                                                 Glitter Numbers
  Tracing numbers is always a good start to pre writting skills ,teaching the children to use their index finger to follow the outline is a beginning. Glitter I found was a lot more attractive  to children than sand paper.  But can be made easily and can be used like the Montessori Sand paper numbers.  Using Craft glue helps the glitter stand out and the texture of the glitter helps the children follow the shape of the numbers.

       Homemade Number Skittles

You will need 10 plastic bottles ,card, paper ,glue, sand, {what ever you want to decorate the outside of the bottles with }
The only hard bit is the amount of sand needed .This depends on how hard or easy you want to make the game .
I just cover the bottom of the bottle with sand and it helps the bottles stand. The children can have fun knocking the bottles down with a ball and can practice counting to 10 as they stand them back up again!  With older children you can encourage them to add up the numbers they knock down .  A simple game you can play with a group of mixed aged children.

Shapes
Pac Man Fish

First shape to start with ,I think is always the cirle. Easy to draw and easy to make pictures with. The above fish was made from 2 paper plates, tissue paper, paint and spare bits of coloured foam. The tail is just the bits of plate cut away to make the mouth. Before stapling or glueing together put the tissue paper on the inside along with some string if you want to hang him up.

Circle Pictures

Collage pictures are great fun for young children ,above is 2 ideas of circle pictures .You can encourage the children by making an example for them to follow or give them an assortmant of circles and see what they create.

Shape Matching Cards

Shape cards and games are easy to make. The above card only needed card ,felt tips and coloured foam. The coloured foam I got a from the poundland shop for £1, the foam sheets were just slightly smaller than A4 great bargin! More examples below.

Shape Collage
Shape collages can be made from a range of materials. My favourites were always paper and coloured foam, easy to cut.
