Preschool Art and Craft

                            Playdough Faces

This is an easy make and works well with Preschool kids and Primary 1.  A blank face drawn on card and covered with sticky
back plastic.

I asked May to make an example and of course it had to have some pink.  A simple activity but great for encouraging children to add all the features to a face.

                                      Sand Trays

All children enjoy playing in sand, this activity allows the development of pre writing skills at the same time.  All you need is a tray,some sand and time.

 Sand Pictures

Add Glue and Paper and the children can make sand pictures to. Just ask the children to draw a picture with the glue then turn the picture face down in the sand.  Just lift it back up to see the childrens work of art!

Tissue Paper Suncatchers

The first thing is to pick a simple stencil draw it on to 2 bits of card and cut out the inside of the shape.  May is still doing an under the sea theme ,so she wanted a dolphin.

You can use any simple shape {numbers,animals,letter,shapes}
Then cut tissue paper into strips and stick down with some pva glue or any clear drying glue.
       Leave to dry and then glue the second shape on top.
{ place your card on top of a plastic lid or cling film ,easier to pull off  when dry rather than a table}
Another easier way is to have the children glue tissue paper on top of cling film, celotape the corners of the film down to help keep it down.
Leave to dry and then peel the cling film off.   The trick is to make sure there is no gaps in between the tissue strips.

The tissue comes off easy and now can be cut into any shape you want.

The body is made from a rectangle the faces an oval.  Thin rectangles for the arms and small glove shapes for hands or paws. Any other features keep simple, triangles or half circles for ears,small circles for eyes and small rectangles for patches.  They can be as detailed as you want or as simple.

String Painting

You will need, Lengths of wool or string, clothes pegs or lollipop sticks, paint tubs [i use yougart tubs can bin them afterwards], paper.

Tie the wool on to the peg or stick .[a bit of cellotape for the stick] .  Put out a selection of paints and let the kids put the wool in the paint,using the stick/peg to stir. They lift out the wool and lay it on paper, they can hold on to the Stick/peg if the dont want to get to messy.

Potato Prints

You wil need, Potatos, paint, paper,paint tray

A simple and cheap painting tool the potato.  Cut the potato in half and cut out the shape you require.  Shapes are easy to cut and the kids can have fun printing patterns. This is a good painting activity as it is suitable for even toddlers as the half of a potato is easy to pick up.  Any old tray can become a painting tray, Put some paint in the corners then if the children get fed up the can have fun mixing the colours with the potatos.

Bubble Painting
You will need,
washing up liquid, Paint, water, tray big enough to put your paper into,straws,

Mix together the paint, washing up liquid and a little water in the tray.  [Untill you can blow colourful bubbles].  Use the straws to blow lots of bubbles.  Gently put the paper on top ,remove when the bubbles pop and then leave to dry.

[ May and James always enjoy bubble painting,but it gets very messy so put down lots of paper]
