Children's Mosaic Angel Picture

Christmas Angel

I love Mosaic pictures ,but i dont like the cost of the sets. We keep a box of scraps {card ,foam, paper}in our house, which I cut down into Mosaic tiles. May made this lovely picture to go up on the wall. The simple colouring in pictures work the best for mosaic tiles and they make great christmas pictures!

Paper Mache Snowman

Frosty The Snowman

If you dont mind mess this is the make for you! My kids had a great time making snowmen, or in the case of May had a great time making a great mess.
I make Paper mache mix out of white PVA glue and Water { 1/2 glue to 1/2 water } To make the snowballs we put handfulls of shredded paper into a tub with the paper mache mix. Got the paper nice and wet ,then squeeved it together to form balls. We left our snowballs to dry out for a couple of days and then painted them white. Lollipop sticks for arms and we have a snowman.

Winter Origami Bears

How to make an Origami Bear

May managed to make these bears with only a little help. Its a good Origami make for Primary kids a bit too hard for Preschool. I have put  instructions below ,its a lot easier than it looks! Why not give it a go.

Start with a square and fold diagonally across. You will be left with a triangle like the one below. I have puts lines on the example to make it easier.

fold in half and unfold
.
Fold the left and right tips over towards each other so it looks like below.

 Next 2 folds
Fold the right and left tips outward at an angle so it looks like below

Next 3 folds in ,each ear and the bottom tip
Then turn over and fold the other side of the bottom tip up

Then make the final fold to finish the mouth!

Christmas madness has already started in our house and its not even December yet. May's School even has its Christmas Fayre next weekend and I spent my last parent helper morning being Santa's little helper. 30 cuddly dogs needing collars with bells, next week I think there's another 30 to do.

This little snowman was made from a plastic bottle, covered in strips of paper. For more instructions on how to make him check out our new Christmas page! Where I have gathered together a few idea's for easy Christmas Arts and Crafts.

Homemade Christmas Presents

Wooden Spoon Puppets

This little Snowman is made from a kit from Yellow moon arts and craft catalogue. { the links on our cheap art supplies } May's been making some of these puppets for christmas presents for her little cousins. They are cheap to buy and easy to make.
But we also cheated and went to the Pound store and bought wooden spoons and coloured foam, which worked out even cheaper!

Children's Homemade Board Games

Game in a Box

Three in a row {or Knots and crosses }is a fun little game ,that most kids enjoy. May loves board games and once a week we all sit down round a table and play a board game. James being 13 does complain a bit, untill he starts winning!
The above game I made to fit in a box so we can play in the car. A simple idea easily made. One box, one square bit of card that fits inside, counters made of shiny red and blue card, mark it out for three in a row and result, we have peace in the back of the car!
Its a lot cheaper than DSIs and portable DVD players

Autumn Leaf Prints

Leaf Painting

May loves any excuse to go in our garden ,even if it's freezing!
She was away collecting leaves for our leaf painting this morning without any complaining ,where as her brother was infront of the computer with the look of don't bother asking me !
Collecting leaves and printing with them, a great way to spend a cold Autumn day. The only downfall was when May decided next time we would be better going to our local park ,more different types of tree's she explained .So tomorrow another cold walk is planned, need to look out my scarf and gloves.

Children's Handprint craft

Handprint Keepsake

Stretched canvas can be found in the pound stores now and can be used to make great handprint paintings. Pouring glitter on to wet hanprints creates a nice effect too ,May had to add on some stars and sequins aswell. Just make sure you add the name and date or even pick a nice Handprint poem to go along with the painting.

Children's Autumn Hedgehog Picture

Hedgehog Collage

Our little dog Jenny got a fright last weekend. She met a hedgehog in our garden late at night, it rolled into a ball and Jenny froze to the spot infront of it. I found out when I heard the dog howling terrified ,I dont know who was more scared the dog or the hedgehog!
May created this lovely collage for me the following day. We dont see a lot of hedgehog's were we live. I think our Jenny is quite happy about that!

Children's Bonfire Night Collage

Firework Collage

May isn't a fan of loud noises, but she still enjoys the fireworks on Bonfire Night ,just from a distance. We usually get a box that has the information about noise level on it ,she loves a good show just not the loud bangs.
This little collage is a simple idea that helps children practice their shapes at the same time. For more idea's check out our Learning Craft page !
